Description

This is a good pair of late 19th French ovoid vases in first-period Worcester style in perfect condition dating from around 1900. The vases are most likely from the Samson porcelain factory and are decorated with mirror-shaped panels of exotic birds and flowers on a blue scale ground. These have blue seal marks to the bases of both vases.
Edme Samson was born in Paris in 1810. His company Edme Samson et Cie was created in 1845. The manufacturer which continued production until 1969 is known for copying designs of other porcelain makers. Samson ceramics copied designs by Worcester, Chelsea, Meissen, Sevres as well as many Chinese export items.
Not all Samson items are marked. Moreover, marks on many items were later removed in order to pass for originals.
Edme Samson et Cie products stand the test of time, especially those items that were made in the 19th century, which are now highly collectible.
This pair of vases are in excellent condition with no damage or restoration and are a good size, most imposing at 23 cms in height.
