Description

This is a good 19th century sampler embroidered by Mary Anne Pettingle in 1840 with extremely fine needlework. The sampler has the alphabet and numbers in 3 diminishing sizes with the last being extremely small and fine work. There is a fine Georgian house to the lower part flanked by two trees a grazing cow and horse, other decorative motifs include a dog, butterflies, birds, stag, foxes and roses, within a geometric designed border. The central verse is surrounded by a cockerel, owl, dog and further birds framed by a fine pair of floral urns.
The sampler is in really good condition overall, just a very small hole visible in photo
This is framed in its original good quality burr walnut frame which is in excellent condition with a good colour and patina.
The frame measures 47 cms by 43 cms overall.
