Description

This is a good early 19th century sampler of rare form embroidered by Grace Gill aged 28 in the year 1838. The sampler is in excellent condition with a stylised floral border enclosing trees, birds, flowers, animals and a wonderful pair of stylised dragons at the top. The pair of cats are particularly charming with wonderful embroidered whiskers. The sampler is embroidered with text from two hymns by Isaac Watts (1674-1748). The first verse from the hymn “He dies the friend of sinners dies” and the second is a verse from another Isaac Watts composition “He died! The great redeemer died”.
A good early example in excellent condition nicely framed in a gilt frame that measures 62 cms by 62 cms.
