Description

This is a very fine 19th century sampler by Ann James aged 12 and dated 1839. The sampler is beautifully executed with fine needlework and features many interesting images including a central house flanked by flowering trees, birds, lion, cat dogs, stag, crowns, and two standing figures wearing top hats and supported by a walking cane.
This is one of three good samplers by children of the James family, (This one here signed Ann James aged 12, Margaret aged 14 in 1844 and Elizabeth James aged 12 in 1836) that we have recently acquired.
You can identify several recurring designs between the three and all are embroidered in the same naturalistic colour palette.
This sampler is in excellent condition overall with no damage or repair.

The sampler measures 28 cms by 24.5 cms overall including the frame.

UK delivery is £20.
