Description

This is a very pretty and finely worked pictorial and verse sampler worked by Mary Goalby the date given being November 23rd 1843.
The sample has a central religious verse -

'what sorrow may my steps attend I cannot now foretel,
but if The Lord will be my fiend I know that all is well'

-and has three bands of motifs including birds, animals, flowers, crowns and trees, all within a pink floral border. The salmon pink flowers to the centre are exceptionally pretty and have butterflies to either side.
Presented in a smart wooden frame with gilt edge which suits it well the sampler is in excellent condition with no losses or stains. A very fine example. 53 cms by 38 cms
