This is a good pair of large Japanese Meiji period shibayama plaques with stunning eagles in hand carved mother of pearl, abalone, bone and wood. The pair date from around 1870 and have a wonderful rich colour to the deep red lacquered circular frames that are hand painted with prunus blossom. The pair are in super condition with all the work intact and in good order, there are a couple of very minor marks to the inner edge of the frame as photographed. These are a really fine pair one depicts an eagles with a baby rabbit, the other attacking an entwined snake. These are substantial in size so have a great impact measuring 46 cms in diameter by 10 cms deep.
