Antique Oil Painting on Tray 'One Mile from Gretna

Description
This is a delightful 19th century oil painting depiction of a lovers race to Gretna Green. The painting has the title verso “One mile to Gretna, our Governor in sight”. This originates from the well known hand coloured engraving by R. G. Reeve after Charles B. Newhouse, 1835.The scene is well painted in deep warm colours and is in very good order. The tray has a delicate curved timber edge that frames it beautifully so this would make a very decorative wall hanging. It has picture wire to the reverse ready for hanging. The painting measures 54 cms by 35cms.
