Description

This is a delightful Georgian Adam and Eve sampler by Elizabeth Whittaker aged only 9 years old when completed in the Year 1808. The sampler shows particularly fine needlework throughout the piece with angels and birds around a crown and urns of flowers surrounding the verse

“Adam and Eve whilst innocent

In paradise were placed

But soon the serpent by his wiles

This happy pair disgraced”

The work to the tree of life centrally is superb with the serpent depicted and Eve reaching for the fruit.

The sampler is in lovely antique condition, nicely aged overall and the embroidered panel is in excellent condition overall save for one small break in the fabric right at the end of the verse as photographed (pic 3).

The piece is mounted in its original good quality mahogany frame which measures 34 cms by 21 cms overall.
