Description

This is a really exquisite high quality Japanese cloisonne lidded Box from the Meiji period, circa 1870. The box is expertly worked with beautiful glass enamelling throughout the piece having images of flowers foliage and cherry blossom in very fine detail to all sides and even to the base of the piece. The colours in the glasswork are delightful and are laid onto a gilt bronze casket which is raised on elegant bracket feet. The box has a slide restraint to the lid and is attractively tooled inside with images of birds flying over Mount Fuji. The piece is in excellent order with no damage or restoration and measures 14 cms by 11 cms by 7 cms high.
