Description

This is a lovely Japanese lacquered tray in a deep black with stunning gilded detail decorating the central field. The tray depicts a figure in period costume with raised geta shoes on his feet, holding a parasol whilst observing a frog leaping from a fast flowing river.

The gilding work is quite delightful with superb detail to the scene and the lovely wispy, weeping willow trees that overhang the river. This dates from the late Meiji period, circa 1900 and is a good size for use or display measuring 52 cms by 34 cms
