Description

This is a fine quality Chinese, possibly Macau, Apostle Cross in solid rosewood beautifully inlaid with expertly cut and engraved mother of pearl which dates from the late 18th century. The cross is painstakingly inlaid with incised and engraved mother of pearl to depict beautiful blossoms and symbols. The finely grained rosewood cross has ruyi shaped ends and the mother of pearl inlay pieces have a lovely iridescent purple-pinkish hue.
The cross is a good size, it measures 36 cms by 26 cms and it is in remarkable condition considering its substantial age, with no losses to the rosewood or mother of pearl.
