Description

This is a very attractive Japanese red lacquer drinks set which dates from around 1950. The set has a beautiful bright red lacquer tray and 6 drinking cups to match. It is no doubt intended for drinking the traditional drink of Sake but equally could be used for shots or any short drink. The set is in outstanding condition, the red lacquer is a good strong colour and the gilding to the tray and all the cups is good. The cups have hand painted cockerels (a symbol of gain in Japan and the tenth zodiac symbol) and the tray has hand painted gilded bamboo. There is a small nudge to the surface of the tray but hardly noticeable as can be seen from the photographs.
