Description

We have for sale a very decorative art deco period Stevenson and Hancock Derby King Street porcelain plate.

This truly beautiful gilded white plate is decorated with a striking design of yellow roses with green leaves in a blue vase with purple shading against a pale ochre background to the centre, surrounded by a border of gilded leaves to the rim. The plate is signed by the artist JH Ratcliffe and carries puce Duesbury Derby like marks with the crossed P subscript to the back, dating it to the Francis Howard Paget period of the Derby King Street factory, c1933-1935. The reverse of the plate also carries the artists initials JR.

The plate is 8.75 inches in diameter and is in an excellent condition although the glaze carries the craquelure one would expect from a Derby King Street piece of porcelain from the Paget period.
