Description

We have for sale a very rare dessert dish c1788 made by Derby as part of a dinner service commissioned and designed by Lady Philadelphia Hannah Cremorne, Granddaughter of William Penn the founder of Pennsylvania, USA.

The dessert dish is of a very simple yet elegant design, having an almost leaf shaped lozenge form with simple Chantilly blue and white sprigs along with the Viscount Lord Dartrey Cremorne Coronet over PHC within a laurel wreath. The simple design of the dish very much reflects the Quaker origins of the Cremorne family. The base of the dessert dish carries the Duesbury mark in puce.

The service was commissioned at about the time that Lady Philadelphia Cremorne became lady-in-waiting to Queen Charlotte.

The dessert dish is 8 and 1/2 inches (21.6cm) long and is in an excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.

This Derby Dessert dish is currently being exhibited as part of the selling exhibition of rare Derby, Pinxton, Nantgarw and Swansea porcelain "A journey with William Billingsley" 2016, ISBN: 9783741809903
