Stunning Quality Trompe l'oeil Oil Painting. Fantastic realism from this quality artist - attributed to Bill Clayton of Nottingham. I personally knew Bill and I purchased this with another which is also for sale, this example does carry a full signature and date.William James Morley Clayton was an active artist between 1963 and 1991
Tromp l'oeil is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions
I personally knew Mr Clayton and he would often come into the local Antiques Centre where he would purchase items for his next commission, may be even this one? He was a very friendly person and also had a great passion for our local football club. His works are exhibited at:-
Nottingham City Museum and Galleries, Coventry City Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. Also many paintings sold by Christie's of London and Sotheby's of London
