This is a very fine and sensitively painted large pastoral scene of panoramic proportions.
It features farm girls feeding cattle on a coastal moorland with a wide shallow seascape stretching out behind them.

Beautifully painted on a textured canvas with a soft natural palette of autumn colour.

Henry Hetherington Emmerson was from County Durham, North East England. He studied painting and engraving at the Government School of Art, and also in Paris before being accepted at the Royal Academy in London. He exhibited 58 paintings at the Royal Academy in his lifetime.
