Inca Painting - Cusco School, 18th Century.

Description
This is a most intriguing and beautiful painting.Very likely to be 18th Century and of the "Cuzqueña" tradition (See below)
The painting features a winged Angel in traditional Peruvian native dress.
She is holding a set of beam scales featuring a cross and palms - symbolism for Christianity, Justice and Truth - in one hand, and what looks like a palm leaf in the other.
Possibly egg tempura based, pigments of typically Inca colours have been used- orange, purple and red, - and painted directly onto the canvas.
There are 2 patched repairs to the back and a holographic label from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture stitched to the canvas.
The frame is later, 19th C.
Height: 85 Centimetres Width: 60 Centimetres Depth: 5 Centimetres
The Cusco or Cuzco School of Art ...
was a Roman Catholic artistic tradition based in Cusco, Peru (the former capital of the Inca Empire) during the Colonial period, in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
The increasing activity of Indian-Quechua and mestizo painters towards the end of the 17th century, makes the term of Cusco School conform more strictly to this artistic production. This painting is "Cuzqueña", otherwise, not only because it comes from the hands of local artists, but mainly because it moves away from the influence of the predominant trending in European art and follows its own path.
