Professionally light cleaned.

Thomas Cooper was a British Artist from Canterbury. He trained at the Royal Academy, exhibited there and was a full member from 1867. He was known for his portraits of cattle, which earned him the Epithet - 'Cow Cooper'
Examples of his work are held at the Tate gallery and the Victoria and Albert museum

This is a detailed study of a single cow in repose on an estuary bank landscape.

The painting is in very good condition, with some craquelure. It has been carefully professionally cleaned.
Gilt frame and slip, probably original.
The canvas has the remains of an art supplier stamp 'Longacre London', the proximity of the artistic quarter of London and home to the Royal Academy.
