Description

Good Victorian Mahogany Grandfather Clock by John Gillan of Keith Hall, Inverurie. Entered in John Smiths book at the date of 1837, whose address was Keith Hall, a classical Georgian country house.

This clock has the finest mechanism, heavy quality brass works even with blued screws double train movement striking the hour and with second hand and date letter. Many of these clocks were used by the clockmaker to set the other clocks in the workshop.

You will notice from the photographs, the massive pendulum with the pendulum rod encased in wood, this is to keep the rod firm and accurate in its beat.

The works with a white dial and painted numerals have the date letter and second hand and housed in a lovely case in finely figured mahogany. The arched central door flanked on each side with quartered carved columns.

Surmounted with a large bronze eagle.
