Beautifully modern hand coloured copper engravings from 'Description de l'Egypte...', engraved by Tresca, published on the order of Napoleon Bonaparte in Paris, 1809 - 1829.

The 'Description de l'Egypte ou Recueil des observations et des recherches qui ont ete faites en Egypte pendant l'expedition de l'Armee Francaise' (Description of Egypt and Collection of Observations and Research that were done in Egypt during the expedition of the French Army.) was a series of publications which offered a comprehensive scientific description of ancient and modern Egypt and its natural history. It is the collaborative work of about 160 civilian scholars and scientists as well as 2000 artists and engravers who accompanied Napoleon's expedition to Egypt in 1798 to 1801. Although this venture did not prove to be the military success Napoleon had expected, the expedition as such and the resulting 'Description' was a cultural and scientific success, and is regarded as the beginning of the interest and fascination in Egyptology.

Only one thousand copies of this work were ever produced and rarely are single prints being offered for sale.

These stunning prints would look good in a kitchen, restaurant or hall way.
