Description

A superb bronze bust of Juliette Recamier a French Socialite 1756 to 1813. A well known figure of the time she was renouned for her beauty, married at 15 to a man 30 years her senior, who was suspected of being her father. The marriage was never consummated and it is suggested he married her so he could pass his wealth to her.
The original artist the French sculptor Joseph Chinard 1756 to 1813 has work in many museums in France. The picture shown in the photgraphs here is of Juliette and hangs in the Louvre. The 19th Century example is from the original and is most impressive and of course affordable. It is a great size and in good condition with good detail. A rare item having so much history behind it.
