Description

This zoomorphic vessel in the shape of a llama with Black Slip Harness is from the Chancay civilization, dated between 1000 and 1400 AD.
The Chancay were a Pre-Columbian archaeological civilization which developed between the valleys of Fortaleza, Pativilca, Supe, Huaura, Chancay, Chillón, Rimac and Lurin, on the central coast of Peru. It is a fine and very tactile example of the period and does have provenance from Sothebys, London, circa 1970.
It measures 4 3/4 in - 12 cm in length, 1 1/2 in - 3.8 cm wide and 2 3/4 in - 7 cm in height. This vessel would make an exceptional addition to both a collection as well as a decorators piece for a range of rooms.
