Description

An impressive mahogany coal box and shovel with reeded scroll handle and metal lining standing on gilt paw winged feet. The shaped hinged lid is mounted with a classical gilt mythological winged creature, which encloses a swing handle in its mouth. These winged beasts, together with acanthus leaves, decorate the sides of this antique coal box. The condition is good, as this 19th Century coal box is in untouched condition, there are a few minor scratches (as can be seen in the photographs)indicating its use over many years. These do not detract from the appearance of this superb box. This elegant Regency style coal box would add style to any fireside.
