Whitehurst, Derby. c.1780.

Rare mahogany 'column/pillar' stick barometer of individual and previously unseen design by Whitehurst of Derby. The tapering mahogany pillar of the barometer contains what appears to be the original mercury filled tube with portable boxwood cistern. The unusual well engraved silvered scale is fitted with a manual vernier and engraved 'Whitehurst' with finely scripted weather indications and a scale from 29-31".
