Description

A decorative study of a young woman.

She sits reading by candlelight with a pair of candle snuffs sitting on the table.

To the verso written in ink, Captain Parrish RN Finsbury. Looking through the records of the Royal Navy for 1815 shows the notice of marriage between Captain John Parrish to Miss Craig. With the style and dress of this lady we feel this is in keeping with the early 19th century. Could this be the new Mrs Parrish, a cherished portrait that has travelled the world?

In completely original, untouched condition. Some natural ageing to the dark, bitumen based colours of the background and to the frame losses as detailed in the images
