Description

An excellent early 19thC cutlers stool in ash an elm, typical of the style found in Sheffield.
The ring turning on the legs and the shape and scale of the seat are typical features found only in stools from factories in that area.
It would have been used by the makers of scissors or knives as they move from machine to machine, grinding, cutting and polishing their pieces. The flat front allows the stool to be pushed in close the the machine, while the tripod legs ensure a steady seat with no wobbles.

This is a very good example of the type and highly recommended

Height is 54cms (21¼") and condition is excellent, even outstanding.
Age circa 1820-1830.
