Description

The printed Royal Scottish Standard flag in soft thin cotton showing the lion rampant depicted center within a red double border having a motif of alternating heraldic lilies on a yellow field.

The textile is in sound condition with a slight fade across the fabric but remaining very vibrant. There is one small tear to one corner, with one small pennyweight to the other corner.

The Royal Standard of Scotland, also known as the Banner of the King of Scots, or more commonly the Lion Rampant of Scotland, is the Scottish Royal Banner of Arms having been used by the Kings of Scotland, with the first King to have done so being Alexander II (1214-1249).

Unlike the modern replicas of today, this well sized antique textile sings with history.
