Novelty Victorian Monkey Walking Stick

Photos

Description

The walnut cane with a beautiful aged patina, terminating in a small turned collar and a finely carved monkey’s head with bellboy hat.

Condition is largely fine the carving remains in tact and the shaft is in good order though there is no ferrule and both the monkey’s glass eyes are missing. This example is rather short, perhaps once belonging to a rather small chap one presumes.

Animal carved walking sticks are immensely popular, with dog, bird or in this case monkey’s heads commonly featuring as the terminal. The quality of the carving of the head suggests that this was once a highly prized object and the bellhop monkey is an utterly charming subject.

Those who favour a cheeky monkey for a concierge need look no further.
