Art Deco Morocco Leather Handbag

Description

In bell shaped form, this Art Deco accessory boasts soft morocco leather, a moire interior with an angular chrome frame and a rather bright and fun amber sparkle clasp.

The condition is good, with the handle and frame being sound and the five interior pockets in good order.

Hand tooled leather was very popular in the 1920s, and handbags in general were a less practical affair than they are today. Women carried precious little around in their bags essentially just lipstick, powder and a small amount of money. A lady would tend to just give her name to the establishment she was visiting and the bill would conveniently be sent home to the man of the house.

The term Art Deco encompasses the distinctive styles in art, architecture and design from 1925, until the late 1930s, and is typified by bright bold colours (such as turquoise), and stylized designs derived from the onset of industrialism, as well as artistic movements such as modernism, cubism, and futurism. It is one of the best loved, most influential, instantly recognisable, international, and elegant of all artistic periods.
