Vintage Painted Oak & Woven Seated Stool

Description

The oak frame having ring turned legs, united by stretchers, with the corded seat in fantastic order.

After the mid-eighteenth century, rush and woven seats became unfashionable as upholstery gained prominence, but by the middle of the next century William Morris (1834-1896), founder of the Arts & Crafts Movement, helped repopularise them. Like today, at this time there was a yearning amongst city folk for a more rustic way of life and woven seats such as this one seemed to typify this daydream.

This stool is essentially a versatile, comfortable and mobile piece of furniture, and one in turn that would sit well in almost any room.
