A Fine c.1910 Turned Ebony Perfume Holder & Bottle

Description
The well-turned ebony perfume bottle holder, containing a clear glass bottle and stopper, with threaded body survives from Edwardian period England. The condition is superb with the ebony in lovely order and the original bottle glass without damage. The ebony is stamped to the bottom ‘Real Ebony’. A holder of very similar quality, style and size, but with silver mounts, was hallmarked for London 1915, maker's mark William Robertson.
Ebony is a very slow growing hardwood and was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the 1920s which is when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. It was also used in travelling apothecary sets.
Beautifully tactile, just picking this up can lift ones mood, and filling it with your favourite scent makes it even more beguiling.
