POW Napoleonic War Straw work BoxDuring the Napoleonic Wars of 1803–1815 The English were at war with the French for one reason or another, mostly for political reason. Our French prisoners were initially taken to Norman Cross Prison. To pass their time & earn many prisoners created straw works.
This small calling card box is of exceptional quality, created in wonderful detail with great skill.
It operates perfectly.
Externally it is in superb condition. Internally it is in excellent condition bearing just a small corner damage. We have chosen to leave it ‘untouched' it could however be repaired without difficulty.
What makes this little piece so special is the wonderful detail & also the superb shine still displayed from the straw.
