Description

A German Kriegsmarine M42 single decal steel helmet. Original goal skin liner and chin strap. The helmet entered service in 1942 till the end of hostilities in 1945. Stamped batch number D278 with size 57 on the liner. Overall very condition with wear conducive to operational use.
The helmet has only recently come to light, and was unbeknown to the family of Stephen Thomas Salisbury late able seaman RN P/X297635 who owned the helmet. His WWII service is as follows:
HMS Adamant 1942
HMS Valiant 1943
HMS Corinthian 1944
HMS Norfolk 1944
HMS Sussex 1945
It is believed that the helmet was acquired as a trophy in 1943 when he served on HMS Valiant, which was attached to Force H in the Mediterranean.
