Description

Early 18th.c. six plank chest or coffer in elm c.1700. 48" long, a little larger that most we see, could be used as a hall seat with storage or at the end of a bed perhaps. Simple construction from six solid elm boards. Retaining the original small compartment inside (also in elm), the lid of which forms a stay for the chest lid when open. Scratch carved detail around the lid, applied moulding to the lower edge of the front and shaped detail to the ends to form feet. Original hoop hinges supplemented with later iron strap hinges. The right hand side would appear to be a replacement board. Very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Width: 48" (122 cm)
Height: 21" (53.5 cm)
Depth: 16" (40.5 cm)
