Description

A very good example of a late 18th century gilt cased English verge.

MOVEMENT Gilded verge movement, signed and numbered (159) with pierced and engraved balance cock. Clean, good condition, original and running well.

DIAL 35 mm. White enamel, in excellent condition, virtually mint. Fine gold 18th century beetle and poker hands, again perfect.

INNER CASE 40.75 mm. Gilt/brass, in good condition with a little wear to the gilding on the pendant and bow but no damage or repairs. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut. High dome crystal with a few light scratches but no chips.

OUTER CASE 48.5 mm. Gilt/brass with shell or horn covering. Good colour and in very good overall condition with no restoration. The bezel has one short section missing near the catch (13mm) but otherwise just a couple of short cracks on the edge of the back. Only about 12 pins missing. The hinge, catch and button are fine and the case closes nicely.
