Description

This is a handsome Art Deco Sterling Silver Egg Cup from the 1930s. The egg cup has a circular stepped foot, a very short stem and a classic plain goblet shaped cup. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind making this ideal as a gift.

The egg cup was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Turner & Simpson and dates to 1936. Established in 1912, Turner & Simpson produced a wide range of silverware from flatware and fobs to smoking accessories and trophies, all of consistently good quality. They were a very successful company and remained in business up until around 1980.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 90 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The egg cup stands 4.9cm / 1.9ins high and is 4.2cm / 1.6ins in diameter across the top rim. It weighs in at a respectable 32.2g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside of the cup, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter M for 1936 and the T & S makers' mark for Turner & Simpson.
