Here we have sale a set of twenty eight miniature bovine dominoes in a carved box with drawer, the box is beautifully carved with lid carved in gothic script with the word Domino and with diamond decoration to the sides, I believe these were produced by Napoleonic POWs during the first half of the 19th Century.

There were a large number of prisoners held in the UK during this period and many were allowed to make items that could be sold or swapped, to gain them access to better food, they made these items out of the materials that were available to hand such as wood and animal bone.

Condition report:

The dominoes all appear to be in fairly good condition because they are handmade there are some inconsistencies with the shape but this just adds to the charm. The box appears to be in fairly good condition, however there is a split to one side, please the attached photos.
