Description

A large oval brass tray made by Hugh Walliis, coppersmith from Altricham Cheshire 1871 - 1944. Hugh trained as an artist and began work as a woodblock printer producing prints similar in nature to those of John Hall Thorpe, later he took up producing the beaten copper-ware for which he is best known. This tray is unusual in that it is larger than most of his pieces that one normally finds and also in that it is a beaten brass tray. It has robust brass handles at each end, a twisted brass wire decoration around the outer edge and a stylized floral decoration in the center. This piece is offered in "as found" condition although it could easily be cleaned and polished. It was probably made between 1900 and 1920.
