Description

A Mid 17th Century English Bronze Mortar.

The centre cast with a band of scrolls and flowers in a repeating pattern,and with an upper cast band of gothic leaf and berries raised on a recessed foot.

In my research i have found identicle examples from the Whitechapel Foundry London so i see no reason why this can not be attributed to the same foundry.

Standing at 8" high with a rim diameter of 10".

Also with a bronze pestle of 9" ,although not the original it is of a similar date.

Good colour and extremely heavy
