Large framed pastel on paper after Sir Edwin Landseer’s much loved 1839 painting ‘Dignity and Impudence’. Showing the contrasting characters of a noble looking Bloodhound and a cheeky West Highland Terrier, the original painting (which now resides in the collection of the Tate Gallery) was commissioned by the chemist Jacob Bell, the subjects are his dogs Grafton and Scratch. This brilliantly realised hand drawn copy c.1920 is presented laid onto a canvas stretcher in a 19th.c. bird’s eye maple frame with gilt slip. A small tear and some minor foxing to the paper, some general wear to the frame.
