6ft Super King Colonial Mahoangy Buremese Bed
This is a good quality antique Burmese 6ft wide mahogany super king four poster bed, circa 1940 - 1950.

This is a good quality antique Burmese 6ft wide mahogany super king four poster bed, circa 1940 originating from Mandalay, Burma during the post ware period. The bed fits a standard UK king size mattress (6ft wide x 6ft 6” long) and is constructed of solid mahogany. The bed has four tapering square posts, which support a drop down canopy, and above there are lovely small mahogany finials on the end of each post. The four posts and canopy would have originally been used to support a muslin cloth to stop mosquitos biting you whilst you were asleep in the bed. The head of the bed features a bowed headboard, which is interspersed with wooden vertical slats. The headboard is connected to the solid mahogany side rails, which supports the open rail footboard. The bed stands on tapered feet. Three removable hardwood wooden slats support the mattress. The colour of this bed is a dark red- brown mahogany. There is also an ex-demonstration super king mattress that can be supplied with the bed for free if wanted. The bed is very easy to assemble four large steel bolts screw through the headboard and footboard into the side rails. This bed would look very good in either a contemporary or traditional setting.
Provenance
This bed was constructed in Mandalay, Burma, circa 1940 – 1950, following the Second World War and purchased by an English family living there during that period. It was then brought back to England when they decided to move back to the UK.

Condition Report
This bed is in excellent condition and is commensurate with its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no breaks or damage to any parts of the bed. The bed boasts the original polish. There is an excellent colour and patination to the timber. There is also an ex-demonstration super king mattress that can be supplied with the bed for free if wanted. Free of woodworm, solid in joint and ready to use.
