Here we have a rare fantastic attributable portrait of a royalist officer from the English civil war.

17th Century Royalist Painting for sale. Comes in antique style mordern frame. Purchased direct from family upon the sale of Hayton castle recently.

This chap is:

Sir Edward Musgrave 1st Baronet of Hayton Castle a ardent Royalist, he was a colonel at the battle of Preston. In 1648 he supplied the King with his own horse allowing him to escape.

Cromwell said to the duke "if he did not forthwith deliver ned musgrave then he would send a group of horse to storm his castle.

Painting is attributed to the circle of Jacob Huysmans, it has been relined at some point in it's history as standard and recently been professionally cleaned and revarnished.

In frame it is 78 x 92cm
