An Oriental style four leaf screen, oil on canvas, with intricately painted figures amidst ornamental gardens depicting stories in sequence from Chinese folklore, in patinated gilt and paint against a black ground. The delightfully detailed faces,all different and full of character, amidst details including Willow Tree and Bamboo as a recurring feature, interspersed with male and female figures of high and low caste. Lords and Ladies, Courtiers, Gentlefolk, Musicians, Fishermen, Hunters, Birds, Storks, a Chinese Junk, Bridges & Pagodas with a running Greek Key frieze along the base.Circa, 1880.
