Walcot and Co

Description

An unusual arts and crafts magazine stand, Liberty & Co, c1904. Made of solid oak, two side flaps that open out for magazine storage, two small drawers to the side one fitted out for pipes, the other for cigarettes, a book trough below with sliding bookend to keep them upright. It has some lovely detail moulded curved edges to the flaps, original brass handle and hinges, exposed dovetails and shaped plank sides and feet. No makers mark, but this piece of furniture was advertised in the Liberty & Co Yuletide gifts catalogue of 1903, and is mentioned in Daryl Bennett's book on Liberty furniture.
