Description

The Civil defence medal is a long service award in the United Kingdom and associated territories.
The award was instituted in 1961.

The award is given for 15 years continuous spare time voluntary service in a number of services including the Auxiliary fire service (which is what this medal was awarded for).

No Civil defence medals have been awarded since 2007, and none to the UK mainland since 1992.

This medal comes in its original case, inside the original posting box. The box also contains a spare medal ribbon, and the (impersonal) letter from the Home Secretary making the award.
The outer posting box is addressed to
The Chief Fire Officer, Fire Brigade Headquarters, Division Street, Sheffield, 1.
