Description

An exquisite pair of 19th century Chinese sleeve bands within a blue floral border and simple black frame. Worked in Peking knot and gold thread on cream silk, the intricacy of the embroidery is of the highest order - each band containing three flower arrangements in vases on stands as a well as a censer (at the top) and a brush pot full of brushes. Each vase has a different shape: double gourd at the top, baluster in the middle and bowl shaped at the bottom. The pink peonies and white magnolias (?) in the baluster-shaped vases are particularly beautiful.

Dimensions: Frame - height 67.5 x width 37.5 x depth 1.7 cm
Weight 2.19 kg

Condition: The sleeve bands are in very good antique condition. The glazed black frame probably dates from the early 20th century and is a little worn. Please use the enquiry form or contact David if you would like to view additional photographs.
