Description

A very nice set of Chinese hongmu (rosewood) tables with finely carved and pierced friezes in excellent condition, circa 1920. Generally, exhibiting a dark brown colour, the largest, however, has some lighter highlights due to greater sunlight exposure. Superb quality in the carving of the reticulated friezes on three sides of each table.

Condition: The tables are in very good antique condition with solid joints and all carved friezes intact without losses. Some minor cross-grain shrinkage can be observed in the top of the second smallest table (pulled away from the frame slightly on one side) but this does not affect its function. These tables are very heavy for their size, indicative of the quality of the timber selected by the Chinese craftsmen.
