Description

An impressive African bronze of a Dogon horseman on the back of a rearing horse on an integral oval stand circa early 20th century from Mali. It is a finely cast and detailed example using the lost wax method, the rider having been cast separately from the horse.

Dimensions: Height 39 x Width 25 x Depth 10 cm
Its size is compared to a standard bottle of wine in the last photograph.

Weight 3.35 kg

Condition: There is some damage - the raised spindly arm of the warrior has lost its hand and the horse may have had a longer tail. These losses must have happened along time ago as the surfaces are just as patinated as the rest of the sculpture. Neither of these do much to detract from the striking appearance of this sculpture.

Postage & packing: £10 within the UK. Please contact David for a postal quote if you reside overseas.
