Description

This is a large Asian red lacquered and painted turned wooden shallow bowl or charger, early to mid 20th century, probably Chinese. The central panel is decorated with two large leaves (?) surrounded by peony flowers and foliage, and with a saw tooth border which is replicated on the rim of the bowl. The underside is simply finished in red lacquer.
This attractive bowl can be equally used as a decorative object or for holding fruit.

Dimensions: Diameter 45 cm
Weight 1.25 kg

Condition: The bowl is in good vintage condition with marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. The lacquer has chipped off in places particularly around the rim and on the foot. There is a small closed split extending a short distance from the edge (see 5th photo).
