Description

Finely carved coquilla nut dating from the Early 19th Century which was probably made for the dressing table and would have contained a scent bottle. It would originally have been mounted on a stand, also probably carved from coquilla nut, which has subsequently been lost.

The container conforms to a double gourd shape with the upper half having the pointed finial carved with flowers and fruit whereas the lower half has a concave band of acanthus leaves above a basket of flowers and scrolling plants. The overall composition is very appealing.

Dimensions: 10.5 cm height x 4.2 cm diameter.

Condition: Very good antique condition. The the two halves screw tightly together. The container has a good colour and patina.

Postage & packing within the UK is £4.50. Please contact me for a quote for overseas destinations.
